#1: COMMUNITY-ORIENTED CAMPAIGNS
2020 has been a tumultuous year marked by a global pandemic, divisive politics, racial unrest and financial uncertainty. As we enter the holiday season, it is important to end the year on a high note with a message of hope and better times ahead in 2021. To that end, we strongly recommend that our broadcast partners (especially local stations) lean in to community-oriented campaigns. A combination of Megaphone polling and our suite of pop-up offers can engage viewers and support local initiatives.
Case Study: ABC 11 Raleigh Christmas Parade Celebration
ABC 11’s virtual Christmas parade was presented by Shop Local Raleigh and shone a spotlight on small businesses that were affected by COVID-19. Not only did Megaphone polls add a live, interactive element to the taped segments, ABC 11 used the Click to Donate pop-up offer to raise funds for their holiday Food Drive.

Case Study: KATC Lafayette + Rouse Supermarkets
This year, local businesses are relying heavily on e-commerce so use pop-up offers to connect viewers with your sponsors’ digital marketing throughout the holiday season.
#2: CONTESTS = LEAD GENERATION
Contests are one of the most effective ways to generate new leads, both for your clients and your station’s marketing team.
-
Incentivize viewers to share information including emails and phone numbers
-
Convert those leads through newsletters or other marketing outreach
Case Study: 6 ABC Philadelphia Thanksgiving Parade
6 ABC Philadelphia created a Watch & Win sweepstakes for the 2020 Thanksgiving Parade, which was sponsored by Dunkin’. Every hour a Golden Donut snipe rolled across the screen with a different phrase. Viewers then went to 6abc.com/donut where they selected the correct phrase from a Megaphone Quiz. After they cast their vote, viewers received a custom pop-up form which allowed them to enter to win one of 3 hourly prizes.
#3: ENGAGE AND ENTERTAIN WITH DIGITAL CONTENT
As many communities return to lockdown, innovative stations are using Megaphone to create unique digital experiences for their viewers…and potential sponsors.
To that end, we will be holding a Megaphone Digital Workshop to help your digital content team maximize Megaphone. Stay tuned for registration information, coming soon! In the meantime, you will find some recent examples of innovation below.
Case Study: Brackets
In November, Rogers Sportsnet created a month-long bracket to engage fans during the NHL’s off-season. The Sportsnet team embedded a Megaphone controller next to their video player at sportsnet.ca/thegreatest, allowing viewers to vote for the Greatest Goal of the 21st century. The results were recapped every evening in Sportsnet Central, creating fun and engaging content (both on-air and online) for Canada’s leading sports broadcaster.

Case Study: Web Trivia
Also in November, 6 ABC Philadelphia ran a day-long Zoo-a-thon in support of the Philadelphia Zoo. As part of the campaign, the station’s digital team created a live, second-screen trivia experience. Using social media and their app, they drew viewers to 6abc.com where they participated in a quiz and entered to win prizes.

Case Study: Quiz Show
To help your station create unique content to engage viewers, Megaphone has launched Quiz Show. Our broadcast partners can now easily create an interactive, touchscreen trivia game with a live host.
