One way sports broadcasters can further engage with their viewers is through “March Madness” style brackets. Using a series of web polls to create sports brackets promotes in-show and social mentions that will drive more traffic to your website.

No NCAA Tournament? Time for innovation! Our broadcast partners at KATC Lafayette brought the dramatics of the NCAA Tournament to their Cajuns Madness bracket as they named the best Louisiana Ragin’ Cajun Student Athlete. They paired up the athletes in a championship-like bracket, allowing viewers to vote for the athlete they want to see move forward.

KTVB Boise also used a 16-team “March Madness” style bracket to seed the top 16 teams of the FBS era based on accomplishments. The first-round consisted of the top 8 teams that advanced to the quarterfinals, followed by the top 4 teams that advanced to the semifinals eventually leading to the championship matchup. Voting stayed open through the weekend and the winner was announced on the News at 10 on Sunday evening. Click below to view the Case Study from KTVB Boise, including the news broadcast recap.

Our partners at BYU Sports Nation got creative using brackets to decide on the best sports play. Viewers could vote online or through the BYU Sports Nation app. Watch the full video below!
