Megaphone Megastars: WBTV Charlotte

by | Jun 3, 2019 | Broadcaster Success, Megaphone Updates | 0 comments

MEGAPHONE TV regularly highlights our MegaStars, broadcasters that are using interactivity in an innovative manner. Our goal is to applaud and inspire as we share interesting ideas and segments from across the Megaphone family.

Our newest MegaStars are from WBTV Charlotte.

WBTV Charlotte created one of the most compelling interactive segments that we have seen in a local newscast.  WBTV’s On Your Side Tonight did a deep-dive into the polarizing issue of immigration, including a report that most Americans would not pass the US citizenship test. In an inspired piece of producing, WBTV used Megaphone TV’s Trivia feature to have their viewers answer questions from the citizenship test.

WBTV has also been a leader in interactive sponsorship. During the NCAA football season, WBTV used MEGAPHONE TV to allow fans to predict the winner of their SEC Game of the Week. After voting, viewers received a pop-up with a contest entry form. Contestants who correctly predicted the winner of the game were entered to win a gift card from the sponsor. The contest was promoted by 15 sec co-branded promos, in-show mentions and via WBTV’s app.

To say thank you to WBTV Charlotte, MEGAPHONE TV is sending them a $200 Visa Gift Card to buy lunch for the team.

We would also like to send a hearty congratulations to Dennis Milligan, who is retiring this month as News Director at WBTV.  On behalf of everyone at MEGAPHONE TV, we wish you well-deserved happiness in your retirement!

Remember, we are always looking for examples of:

  • Great interactive content

  • Strong payoff (audience participation affects a show in an impactful way)

  • Unique and engaging sponsorship or contesting

  • Technically innovative use of Megaphone in broadcast or live stream

If your team is using Megaphone in a cool or innovative way, email and you could be our next MegaStar!
